Benefits of Herbal Teas…

First and most importantly let me say that our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Brussels. What another sad day for humanity.

Herbal teas are wonderful, relaxing and convenient but do you know which teas have specific benefits? All of them actually! They each have their own special benefit that ranges from being high in antioxidants to helping suppress our appetites. The great news is that most, if not all of these can be found in the grocery store or health food store. Please do not take this as medical advice as I am not a doctor and do not claim to be. Before starting anything new, talk to your doctor.  Let’s get started:

  • Oolong Tea-Helps to alleviate skin conditions
  • Black Tea-Has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Green Tea-Is high in anti-oxidants
  • Yerba Mate-Opens up respiratory passages
  • Stinging Nettle-Recommended for those who suffer from seasonal allergies
  • Dried Ginger Root-Helps with motion sickness and has antihistamine properties
  • Peppermint-Decongestant, anti-inflammatory and helps suppress appetite
  • Rooibos-Caffeine free, helps with skin irritations
  • White Tea-Antibacterial, has the highest antioxidant properties of all of the teas

Take time out to try some of these terrific, tasty  teas and reap the benefits! Tea is meant to be enjoyed slowly and I think that all of us could use some relaxation time in the middle of our busy schedules. Cheers to tea and cheers to you!

Detox Drink…

Hi Everyone,

After a weekend of indulging at birthday parties, Valentine’s day, Sunday morning french toast and laying around watching season after season of Shameless, we decided it was time to detox. We’re feeling a tad sluggish and in need of a re-boot so we dug out this awesome recipe that we’ve been using for years. It’s simple, delish and really easy. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 6 cups of boiling water
  • 1 dandelion root tea bag
  • 1 lemon tea bag
  • 1 red rooibos tea bag
  • juice from 1/2 lemon
  • juice from 1/2 lime
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cranberry juice (no sugar added)

Add the 6 cups of boiling water to a heat safe measuring cup or jug. Add the tea bags and stir, let them brew for about 15 minutes before removing them (or longer if you want a darker, stronger tea), add the lemon and lime juice. Stir and add the water and unsweetened cranberry juice. Let the mixture cool and put in the fridge to drink throughout the day. The entire concoction should be gone before bedtime. Here’s the skinny on how the ingredients help with making you feel your best…

Dandelion Root-chock full of vitamins A, B, C, & D

Lemon Juice-immune boosting, anti-viral, digestive aid

Cranberry Juice-helps with UTI’s, contains flavanoids, helps with digestion and bloating

Red Rooibos-helps with stomach cramps, low in tannins (the stuff in wine that gives people headaches) and it contains anti-oxidants.

So drink up and enjoy and as usual, we ARE NOT doctors and don’t claim to be, so if you have any questions/concerns about this recipe, please contact your family doctor.
